Getting a foreign diploma recognised in Switzerland

Find the right authority, prepare your file and translate the right documents.

Regulated profession or not?

It all depends on your goal. To practise a regulated profession in Switzerland, official recognition is generally required. For a non-regulated profession, the employer often assesses your diploma.

Depending on the profession, the competent body may be SERI, another federal or cantonal authority, or a specialised organisation. For studies, the university or college decides on admission.

The usual documents

You will often be asked for the diploma, the transcript or diploma supplement, sometimes a description of the courses, employment references and an identity document. Each body publishes its own list.

Translation

Documents that are not in a language accepted by the body must be translated. Check whether it requires a certified translation and whether copies are accepted or certified copies are needed.

Save time

Send us the diploma and the transcript together: the terminology stays consistent across both and the quote covers everything.

These guides give general guidance. The precise requirements are always set by the authority handling your request.
